KANO, Nigeria – Ahmad Aruwa, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State, has raised concerns about a potential political crisis following allegations of a plot by influential figures within the presidency to oust Abdullahi Ganduje from his position as the Acting National Chairman of the APC.
These allegations were made public in a video released by Aruwa that has since gone viral on social media.
In his statement on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Aruwa vehemently opposed the alleged conspiracies, claiming they were designed to weaken Ganduje’s standing within the party and with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We will confront anyone within the APC who dares to challenge Ganduje, regardless of their status or political influence,” he declared in the video.
The controversy surrounding Ganduje’s leadership position intensified after a Kano High Court confirmed his suspension as a member of the APC by his local ward leadership earlier on Wednesday.
Aruwa attributes the suspension and the broader campaign against Ganduje to specific factions within the presidency, which he accuses of trying to damage Ganduje’s relationship with President Tinubu.
Additionally, Aruwa criticised President Tinubu for seemingly ignoring the support he received from Kano during the 2023 presidential elections, a time when, according to Aruwa, other regions were less supportive.
This escalating dispute threatens not only the internal stability of the APC but could also impact the broader political climate, given Ganduje’s significant role in securing electoral victories for the party.
The situation remains tense as party members and political analysts watch closely for any developments that could lead to further divisions within Nigeria’s ruling party.
