LAGOS, Nigeria — Former senator and media mogul Ben Murray-Bruce has predicted that global Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, could one day emerge as the Governor of Osun State.
In a video message shared on Monday, May 12, 2025, Murray-Bruce cited Davido’s prominent family background, political awareness, and widespread popularity as factors that could propel him into elective office.
“David Adeleke, the global phenomenon better known as Davido, is undeniably an international artist and a true Nigerian superstar. He stands as one of Nigeria’s most valuable cultural exports,” Murray-Bruce said.
“But beneath the surface of this music icon lies a side that many may not be aware of. He is, by his own admission, a political animal with deeply held views and a clear-cut political ideology.”
Davido, 31, is a member of the influential Adeleke political dynasty in Osun State.
His uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as the state’s governor, while another uncle, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, previously held the same office during Nigeria’s military era.
Murray-Bruce suggested that the combination of Davido’s family legacy and his massive youth following could offer a new model of leadership.
“The thought that Davido himself could one day aspire to become the Governor of Osun State seems more like a potential trajectory, especially if his political inclinations are nurtured and strategically channelled,” he said.
He further encouraged more entertainers to enter public service, arguing that their cultural capital and grassroots connection could inject “fresh perspectives and dynamism” into the political system.
“Here in Nigeria, there is a growing sentiment that more entertainers should consider seeking political positions,” Murray-Bruce added.
“Their ability to connect with different demographics could reshape the political landscape. Davido, if you run, I predict you will win.”
Davido has not publicly declared any intention to run for political office, but he has frequently shown interest in politics, particularly in supporting his family’s campaigns.
He was actively involved in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s successful bid in the 2022 Osun gubernatorial election, often appearing on the campaign trail and mobilising youth voters.
