Fifteen senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have defected to the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.
This development was confirmed by Bankole Omisore, a media aide to Senator Bukola Saraki, the president of the Nigerian Senate, to The Trent at 10:58 am on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Thirteen APC senators, namely, Senators Dino Melaye, Olarewanju Tejouso, Shaaba Lafiagi, Barnabas Gemade, Shittu,Rafiu Ibrahim, Shitu Ubali, Isa Misau, Sulekman Hunkuyi, Danbaba, Usman Nafada, Nazif, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, announced their defections to the main opposition party, PDP.
Senators Monsurat Sunmonu and Abdul-Azeez Murtala Nyako also defected from the APC to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
With this development, the ruling APC is now a minority in the Nigerian Senate with 44 senators. The People’s Democratic Party now has 66 senators. ADC has two senators, while APGA has one.
