Dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has been arrested by security operatives on Monday, March 9, 2020 and whisked him out of the ancient city amidst tight security.
The Nation reports that the security operatives are heading to Nasarawa State where Sanusi “will spend the rest of his life in asylum”.
Before he was taken away, Sanusi was said to have been put under house arrest by the heavy security personnel of DSS, police, and the military.
The arrest was after the security operatives sealed off the Palace.
The source said security personnel have succeeded in taking Lamido Sanusi out of the place around 4:30 pm on Monday.
“We are right now at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on our way to Nasarawa state. It took us several hours to remove the emir from the palace,” Daily Trust quotes the source.
A visit to the palace indicated that a combined team of heavily armed security personnel from the State Security Service, Police, Civil defence and Army took over the palace shortly after the announcement of the removal of Sanusi.
