Onyebuchi Sunday... Impeached for raising chickens behind his official quarters

The Enugu State deputy governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, has been impeached by the states House of Assembly.

The Assembly voted on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 removing Onyebuchi from office.

The impeached deputy governor, Onyebuchi, was accused of operating a commercial poultry at his official residence, a charges that does not qualify for impeachment under the law.

A panel was set up by the states Chief Judge to look into the allegations leveled against Onyebuchi.

Onyebuchi had told the impeachment panel that the governor, Sullivan Chime also operated a piggery at the Government House of which the government had budgeted for the maintenance since 2011. He tendered the states budget between 2011 and 2014 to back up his claim.

While appearing before the panel last Wednesday, the impeached deputy governor said the governor’s poultry was hurriedly evacuated shortly after the panel commenced sitting.

He insisted that he did not commit any offence that  should have warranted  his impeachment and that the poultry farms he and the governor operated were there before they assumed office in 2007.
