‘Buhari Should Probe His Time As Minister Of Petroleum, PTF Chairman Too’

Must read

Reactions have continued to trail the plan by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The special adviser on media and publicity to the Rivers State governor, Sir Opunabo Inko Tariah, in an interview with journalists, could not fathom why the government will single out the Jonathan’s government for probe. Insisting the tempest of justice must not blow fitfully, he called on Buhari to probe beyond President Jonathan’s administration in the interest of justice, equity and fairness -adding that anything short of that is tantamount to witch hunting and would be resisted.

He is insisting on a probe from when Buhari served as the minister of Petroleum and chairman of Petroleum Trust Development Fund respectively.

Opunabo Inko Tariah who conceded the probe of corrupt government officials and recovery of government resources is a laudable step as it will serve as a deterrent to all public office holders, stressed that it must not be selective. He noted: “there cannot be a crueler tyranny than that perpetrated under the shield of the law”.

On the claim that Amaechi was not corrupt, Inko-Tariah dismissed it as laughable and ridiculous.

He posited that if Amaechi was not corrupt, what happened to the billions from IGR and the allocations the state got in eight years as civil servants, pensioners, footballers, contractors and even students on scholarship were not paid. He also challenged the former governor to account for the billions of tax payers money spent on the proposed Clinotech hospital and his refusal to probe the “consultants “; the failed three billion naira road maintenance Agency chaired by Elder Chidi Wioka and the monorail.

He said Rivers people demand to know were all the monies were kept or what they were used for.

Condemning the arrest of the Rivers State REC, Inko-Tariah submitted that the Department for State Security Services (DSS, also known as SSS) exceeded its brief -concluding that it is aimed at intimidating her into giving false evidence that the elections were rigged. This, he warned, is insidious and will not be brooked. He adjured the DSS to stop the intimidation-accusing it of being a tool for oppression in the hands of the APC.

For the eight years Amaechi ruled, there is nothing to justify the amount he received, Inko-Tariah averred.
