NAN – A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced two motorcyclists to two weeks community service without option of fine over theft of a BlackBerry phone worth N15,000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F Adeeyo, said that the convicts – Akeem Ajulari, 32; and Rasaki Alao, 25; are guilty of the charges preferred against them after considering the facts of the case.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convicts were arraigned on Sept. 2, charged with conspiracy and theft.
The two were remanded in prison awaiting trial as the N10,000 bail conditions with a surety each could not be met.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Jimoh Iseghede, had told the court that the convicts stole a Blackberry phone from the complainant, one Mr Okechukwu Uchendu, at Kilo Bus Stop, Alhaji Masha Road, Surulere in Lagos
Iseghede said that the complainant raised an alarm, prompting some motorcyclists to pursue the convicts with their motorcycles and caught them.
The policemen on patrol later rescued the convicts from the motorcyclists and arrested them.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
