Staff at a Copenhagen Zoo in Denmark where a healthy giraffe, named Marius, was killed and disemembered in front of children despite a massive online campaign to save it have received death threats, CNN reports.
iTV reports that Copenhagen Zoo spokesman Tobias Stenbæk Bro said that several members of staff were targeted including Bengt Holst, Director of Research and Conservation who “received threats via telephone and emails.”
Two-year-old Marius was slaughtered and fed to lions in the zoo despite an offer to re-home him at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park in accordance with European guidelines aimed at preventing inbreeding and an offer by an unnamed wealthy donor to buy him off at over GBP 450,000.
