A 20 year-old man has been arrested on charges of raping a two-year old girl (names withheld) in Ibadan yesterday, May 5, 2014.
The suspect, Afeeze Raimi is said to be the grandson of the landlord of his victims parents who live at Dalemo Street of Bembo area in Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Nation reports that the victim strays off from her parents apartment into Raimi’s room where he seized her and defiled her. The victim was found to be bleeding from her private part.
The suspect who is a tailor and an SSS2 pupil of the African Church Grammar School in Apata, reportedly confessed to the crime, attributing his act to “the work of the devil.”
Raimi said he did not know what prompted him to commit the crime. “I was returning from somewhere, when she followed me into my room. I was ironing and she was sleeping on the bed. So I dipped my finger into her,” he said.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisisi Ilobanafor, said the girl was subjected to medical examination, which revealed that her private part was penetrated.
The victim is hospitalised and suffered a high fever since being attacked.
