Man Who Impersonated Okonjo-Iweala’s Secretary To Commit Fraud Arrested (PICTURED)

maduThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a man accused of impersonating barrister Wilson Amarachi, the secretary to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy.

In a statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, head of media and publicity for the EFCC and dated Friday, August 22, 2014, the suspect, John Nze Madu was apprehended at Ojodu branch of Diamond Bank where he had come to make a cash withdrawal from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

According to investigations, Madu had defrauded a Chinese national, Wu Qindzhu to the tune of $5,380 while posing as Barrister Amarachi, decieving Qingzhu by telling him he had outstanding payments for business contracted for the federal government of Nigeria.

The Chinese was eventually bought over after Madu presented fake documents from high ranking Nigerian officials, using different e-mail addresses, 2 documents allegedly from Daily Sun newspapers and a fake gazette signed by both President Goodluck Jonathan and David Mark. He also presented an international data page purportedly belonging to Barrister. Amarachi.

Madu contacted Qingzhu through the internet, informing him that he was expected to open a non-residence account in Nigeria and make payment of $300. Qingzhu complied and made two other payments: $1430 and $3650 through Western Union.

According to Uwujaren, Madu will be arraigned pending the conclusion of investigations after he was arrested when he went to withdraw proceed s from his alleged scam.
