Emirs, Lawmakers Boycott Funeral Of Emir Of Gwoza Killed By Boko Haram

The burial ceremony of Late Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Shehu Mustapha Idrisa Timta, who was killed by Boko Haram gunmen on Friday was conducted amidst tears and tight security on Saturday.

No emir or representative were in attendance, also the House of Assembly Member representing Gwoza, Mohammed Jaha Babawo and Hon. Peter Biye, a House of Representative Member, representing Gwoza, Damboa and Chibok were absent throughout the interment.

Our Correspondent observed that throughout the ceremony which ended at about 2pm on Saturday, military airstrikes and choppers were busy hovering around Gwoza town, particularly the palace to prevent further attacks and killing by unrepentant terrorists group.

Though the First Class Monarch was killed while on his way to attend the burial of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, none of his colleagues from within and outside the state were able attend his interment due to unpredictable security situation on the way and around Gwoza town.

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, who was accompanied by his deputy governor, Zanna Mustapha and Senator Muhammed Ali Ndume who is from Gwoza were the highest public officers that led other state government functionaries to attend the burial.

Also the Borno First Lady, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima attended the burial in company of some women Commissioners include Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir who hail from Gwoza.

Following the blowing off and bombings of Limankara and Pulka bridges that links Gwoza with Maiduguri and Adamawa state and the ongoing ambushes on the roads by suspected Boko Haram almost on daily basis, Alhaji Haruna Idrisa Timta, the former Head of Service, Borno state, Alhaji Adamu Idrisa Timta, a Permanent Secretary with the Borno state Government who are amongst the eldest sons of the slain emir, but resides in Maiduguri with their families had to wait and join the convoy of governor Kashim Shettima to attend their father’s interment.

The Islamic funeral was led by the Chief Imam of Gwoza, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Bamanga who prayed Allah to grant aljanatul firdaus to the soul of the mornach and the family to bear the irreparable loss

Governor Shettima who also battled to control his tears as he delivered his tribute and condolences described late Shehu Idrissa Timta as “a man who spent better part of his reign preaching peace and tolerance”.

“This is not day for long speeches; it is a day of mourning of our late father and monarch. May Allah give us yet another monarch that will love his people in the manner Late Shehu Idrissa Timta did; in his life time he was being eulogized as one King that can keep a venomous viper in his pocket, because of his superlative love for peace and tolerance; he was known as a monarch who never show discrepancy whether of religion or tribe. The late Emir has lived an exemplary life; he was a paragon of everything that is good in leader.

The late Emir was survived by his centenarian mother, 28 children, 14 grand children and 14 siblings.
