General Buhari Sends Atiku To South Africa, But Why?

President-elect, General Buhari has sent former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to South Africa with the hope of lobbying for the candidacy of Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).According to a statement signed by the Atiku Media office in Abuja, Atiku’s visit to South Africa is aimed at leveraging on the former Vice President’s contacts in order to get the support of President Jacob Zuma for the emergence of Adesina as president of the bank.

The statement read “His Excellency former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met President Zuma in the company of Dr Akinwumi Adesina during which the directive of President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari was conveyed to Zuma. The issue of South Africa and the Southern African region support for Nigeria’s candidate was exhaustively discussed and well appreciated.”
