A groom has attempted to drown himself in a river after he saw his bride for the very first time and realised she was not actually what he bargained for.
The obviously disgusted Kang Hu said, “I feel bad about what happened but when I saw her she wasn’t what I had expected and I realised she would be bad for my image,” he reportedly said after being fished from a river.
According to Metro UK, the 33-year-old allegedly stunned guests when he apologised to bride Na Sung, 30, after saying she was ‘too ugly’ before the wedding in Shiyan, in central China’s Hubei province.
The pair had been planning an arranged marriage but did not get to see each other until the fateful day.
Little did the groom know that his proposed better half was ugly enough to make him want to take his own life.
Hu who was reportedly forced into the marriage now had a reason to call it quits but that wasn’t enough as he went further to drown himself before some people rescued him.
The rescue team though he was dead after they saw him lying face down in a river in an unconscious state.
An eyewitness, Qan Tsui, 25, who took photos of the rescue said, “He was unconscious and I thought he was dead.”
The groom was rushed to a hospital where he is said to be responding positively to treatment.
