OKEHI, Nigeria – Gunmen have attacked the family residence of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State.
The assault occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, when at least three armed men, armed with firearms and cutlasses, stormed the senator’s family home.
According to Yakubu Ovanja, the senator’s chief security officer, the assailants arrived around 1 a.m., vandalizing the property, including shattering windows.
Security operatives from Okehi LGA responded to the distress call, but no arrests have been made thus far. Preliminary investigations into the incident are underway.
In a statement confirming the attack, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the assailants were under the false impression that she was in town.
The senator expressed relief that no one was injured during the attack, noting that the gunmen were chased away by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and community members who quickly rallied to the scene.
“Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima. They inspected locations for the next series of projects I attracted to my senatorial district,” Akpoti-Uduaghan explained.
“The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and that night, they attacked my family house. They were chased off by the civil defence team and community members who trooped out en masse.”
The senator assured the public that no one was hurt in the attack and that a report had been filed with the police area command for further investigation.
