The preferred choice for the speakership position of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who lost the position to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed candidate, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated the newly elected speaker of the House for the second time since the defeat on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

Shortly after the results of the elections were collated and announced, Hon. Gbajabiamila walked up to the newly elected speaker shaking and embracing him on his election. The second round of congratulations came when the Hon. Gbajabiamila stoop up at the first sitting of the House to specially recognise and congratulate Hon. Dogara.

The new speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, carried out his duties during the first sitting of the house since inauguration by presiding over the house on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.

The sitting was rather very calm as opposed to the rowdy and tension infused session on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 following the elections. A selection committee was set up by the speaker which is expected to appoint members into the various committees of the House and is headed by the speaker. Two other committees were set up to review the Standing Orders of the House and to check welfare of the honourable members of the House.

The next sitting of the House has been adjourned till June 23, 2015.
