Must read

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it has concluded the review of the results from last Saturday’s governorship election held in 28 states, including Abia and Enugu states, where collation had been suspended due to electoral malfeasance and violence.

Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this information in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

The commission had previously met on Monday, March 20, to review the conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections held nationwide on Saturday, March 18.

Okoye revealed that, following the meeting, INEC decided to suspend further collation of the governorship election results in some parts of Abia and Enugu states to conduct a thorough review of the collation processes in both states.

Having now completed this review, the commission announced that the collation of results for the governorship election in both Abia and Enugu states would resume today, March 22.

INEC expressed its gratitude for the patience and understanding of the people of both states as it worked to conclude the collation processes.

The timely completion of this review demonstrates INEC’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process in Nigeria, even in the face of challenges.
