The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has on Monday, December 29, 2014 released the list of registered presidential candidates and their running mates who have been certified to contest next year’s elections.
The commission approves of the 26 registered political parties in Nigeria, out of which only 11 parties submitted names of candidates to run for the presidency.
The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, submitted the names of the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and his vice, Namadi Sambo, while the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, submitted the names of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo as presidential and vice presidential candidates respectively.
Other parties and their candidates include:
Kowa Party, KP: Oluremi Sonaiya and Saidu Bobboi as president and his vice respectively.
Hope Democratic Party, HDP: Ambrose Albert as president and Haruna Shaba as his vice,
Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN: Ganiyu Galadima for president and Balarabe Ahmed as vice.
Alliance for Democracy, AD: Rafiu Salau as president and Clinton Cliff Akuchie as his vice.
United Democratic Party, UDP:Godson Okoye for president Haruna Adamu as his vice.
African Democratic Congress: Nani Ibrahim Ahmad for president and Obianuju Murphy-Uzohue as vice.
National Conscience Party, NCP: Martin Onovo for president and Ibrahim Mohammed as vice.
Action Alliance, AA: Tunde Anifowoshe-Kelani for president and Paul Ishaka Ofomile as vice
United Progressive Party, UPP: Chekwas Okorie for president and Bello Umar as vice.
The Labour Party, LP, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, did not produce any presidential candidate as they have adopted the PDP presidential candidate, Goodluck Jonathan as their candidate.
