IBADAN, Nigeria — Adeniyi Adeyemi, the director-general of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, has been arrested in Ibadan and transported to Abuja for questioning, according to sources familiar with the security operation.
He is being questioned over the alleged operation of an organisation presented as a Federal Government agency.
Authorities have described the commission, known as the PFIPC, as a fraudulent government body.
Security operatives detained Adeyemi in the Oyo State capital before flying him to the Federal Capital Territory aboard a private jet, the sources said.
The date of the arrest was not disclosed in the information provided by investigators.
The aircraft was used as part of a coordinated operation intended to move Adeyemi quickly to Abuja, where the investigation is being conducted, according to the sources.
Adeyemi is being questioned about the establishment and operation of the PFIPC and allegations that it represented itself as an agency of the Federal Government.
Investigators are also examining the organisation’s finances, institutional links and activities, as well as the identities of people who may have worked for it or acted on its behalf, the sources said.
Security authorities have not released a detailed account of the allegations against Adeyemi or identified any formal charges filed against him.
They have also not publicly explained why he was transported on a private aircraft.
The arrest has drawn public attention to the PFIPC and questions about the scale of its activities and the people associated with it.
