JUST IN: Kidnapped Kogi Judge Regains Freedom

Justice Samuel Obayomi who was kidnapped on Monday May 25, 2015 in Kogi State has been released 34 days after his kidnap.

Justice Obayomi is a High Court Judge in Kogi State and was abducted at about 8:45 am when he was on his way to his office by gunmen. The gang demanded N150 million as ransom for the judge’s release.

Lawyers in the state reportedly withdrew from court sessions in protest against the judge’s captivity.

According to the Kogi State commissioner of police, Mr. Samuel Ogunjemilusi, who spoke with journalists on Sunday, June 28, 2015, Justice Obayomi was released on Saturday, June 27, 2015 between 10:00 pm and 11:30 pm.

He said that the judge who is yet to be released to his family had been taken to a safe place. He however refused to say when and where the judge was released. He also did not say whether or not any ransom was paid.

The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah, while confirming the release of Justice Obayomi said; “The kidnapped judge has been released. We thank God for that but I cannot give you more information than you already have.”

The kidnapping of the judge is another is a string of high profile kidnappings in the country.
