Reports about Isaiah Chukwu, a spare parts dealer, who reportedly butchered his fiancee over suspected infidelity, has gone viral on social media.

The suspect, who resides on Balogun street, Oshodi area of Lagos, was spotted by his neighbours around 4:48 am on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, sneaking with her body parts to a dumpsite.

Witnesses said he had stuffed the body of his deceased lover, identified simply as Joy, in a bucket when he was stopped by neighbours and asked what it was. He was said to have claimed it was a refuse but his suspecting neighbours forced him to open it and found the lifeless body of his fiancee.

Punch reported that Joy, 26, and the suspect are both indigenes of Ebonyi state. It was gathered that they had been living together for two years until few days ago when he declared Joy missing. “When people went to the room after the woman’s corpse was discovered, the whole apartment was filled with perfume,” a trader said.

A friend of the couple expressed shock at the incident, saying, “They don’t fight. In fact, people always envied their relationship.” It was further learned that an Islamic cleric, who was preparing to observe Ramadan fast, was the one who opened the sack and found the corpse.

It was upon his discovery that a mob pounced on the Ladipo Spare parts dealer. A police source said the deceased was stabbed in the back, adding that the knife used to murder her had been recovered from their apartment. “We recovered a knife which he used for the crime and four mobile phones from the house. Although investigations are ongoing, we suspect it had to do with suspicion of infidelity.”

The source also said that the suspect accused his fiancee of infidelity, which he discovered during a trip. He said, “The man said he had called her when he travelled and a man picked the call. He said the man queried him (Chukwu) for disturbing his wife.”

Chukwu confirmed the source’s account in a brief statement. He said, “I travelled on Thursday. I called my wife around 11pm to know how she was faring. We exchanged pleasantries. Around 11.45pm, I called again, but she did not pick her calls. I called about 10 times, but she did not pick. Then I heard a man’s voice,” he confessed.
