Must read

After beating Tottenham Hotspurs in the opening game of the 2015/2016 English premier league season, Manchester United faces Aston Villa on August 14, 2015. For the Red Devils’ opening game, Sergio Romero who joined the club this summer was preferred between the stick. That may soon become a trend as the uncertainty about David De Gea’s future heightens.

Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal has now revealed that Spaniard who appears destined to join Real Madrid has refused to play for United. De Gea was asked at a meeting days back if he wanted to play but he told the coaches he didn’t as he was too distracted to play for the team. The coaches then decided at a subsequent meeting to draft in their new goalkeeper, Sergio Romero into the first team.

“We talked with him and he fully agreed with our decision. I have one assistant coach and another assistant coach so we speak about that kind of thing together. We have a goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, and I’m not doing everything alone.

“Frans Hoek … he has a meeting with David de Gea and he asked him: ‘Do you want to play? Then I have to take the decision. It is a process. We had been observing him in preparation, he was not so good, he was not the same David de Gea as before. He was my best player last season. According to the fans, he was the best of the last two years,” Van Gaal said
