NEW YORK, United States — Michael Jordan’s 1998 Finals jersey is heading to auction. The Chicago Bulls star wore it against the Utah Jazz in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
The white mesh jersey, bearing Jordan’s No. 23, is expected to sell for between $10 million and $15 million, according to Joopiter, the online auction house conducting the sale.
Bidding in the “Driven to Greatness” auction will open on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and close on September 29.
Joopiter described the jersey as the only publicly known white uniform from a Bulls victory in the 1998 Finals to reach the market.
Jordan wore the jersey during a decisive home win over Utah.
The victory helped Chicago take control of the series, which ended with the Bulls securing their sixth NBA championship in eight seasons.
The championship run concluded Jordan’s final season with the Bulls. It later became the subject of “The Last Dance,” the documentary series released by ESPN and Netflix in 2020.
“The significance of this jersey extends well beyond the box score,” Joopiter said on its website.
“This is the type of object collectors wait a lifetime for — an irreplaceable artifact that transcends basketball to become a piece of global cultural history,” Caitlin Donovan, Joopiter’s global head of sales, said in a news release.
A sale above the lower end of Joopiter’s estimate would establish a record for a basketball jersey at auction.
The existing mark belongs to another Jordan jersey from the same championship series. The red uniform he wore in Game 1, which Chicago lost, sold for $10.1 million in 2022, more than twice its initial estimate.
A jersey from Jordan’s second season at the University of North Carolina sold for $1.38 million in 2021, setting a record at the time.
The record for any sports collectible belongs to Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” jersey, which fetched $24.12 million in 2024.
Ruth wore it in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, when he appeared to point towards centre field before hitting a fifth-inning home run into the stands.
Demand for Jordan memorabilia has remained strong decades after his playing career.
EBay users have spent more than $88 million on his trading cards this year, according to Gemrate, which tracks card grading and sales data.
Among current and former NBA players, Jordan ranked first. Across the athletes measured, only Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani generated higher sales.
