Mother and Son Taken Into Custody Over Alleged Assault of 12-Year-Old Girl

A mother, Adamo Yunusa, and her son, Saeed Yunusa, have been arrested for alleged assault on a 12-year-old girl, Sukura Suleiman.

The Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, effected the arrest, according to the spokesman of the command, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The two suspects were arrested at their residence in Ile Oniponmo, Ayelabowo in Oko-olowo area, Ilorin, the state capital.

The suspect alleged that the victim was beaten because she stole the sum of N2,000.

The Kwara State commandant of NSCDC, Muhammed Tukur Ibrahim, urged citizens to be vigilant and report any criminal act or security threat in their communities.

He further assured the state of the command’s readiness to respond to any security threat.

The two suspects shall be taken to the court to face the law, the NSCDC spokesman added.

Traders Lament As Fire Guts Section Of Singer Market In Kano

The Kano State Fire Service on Monday, March 12, 2023, confirmed that fire had razed some improvised shops and the upper building of old Savannah Bank at Singer market in Kano.

A statement by the service Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, said that the fire started at about 02:18a.m.

“We received a distress call in the midnight at about 02:18a.m from one Sai’du Hamza that there was fire outbreak at the market which is in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

”On receiving the information, we quickly sent some of our personnel and fire fighting vehicle to the scene of the incident at about 02:22 a.m to put off the fire so as not to affect other shops,“ he said.

Abdullahi however said several temporary shops were completely razed by the fire, adding that the service was yet to ascertain the cause and total number of shops affected.

Lagos: Chaos In Alaba Rago Market After Police Opens Fire On Trader

There was pandemonium at Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of Lagos on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, when policemen attached to Okokomaiko Division who had gone to effect arrest of a suspect opened fire on a trader.

Trouble as gathered started when the police officers came under heavy attack from a large number of traders who pounced on them

Vanguard learned that when the attack on the officers became excessive, one of the policemen opened fire on their attackers in a bid to wade off the irate mob, fatally injury to one of the attackers in the process.

Confirming, the incident, the spokesperson Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the incident happened when the officers when to arrest a suspect at Alaba Rago market.

According to Hundeyin, the officers came under heavy attack from a large number of traders.”

“In a bid to tactically retreat from the armed mob attack, one of the officers fired his weapon, resulting in a fatal injury to one of the attackers.”

“A detailed investigation has commenced into the immediate and remote causes of the incident,” he added.

It will be recalled that the Alaba Rago shooting incident happened on the same day Bolanle Raheem who was shot dead on Christmas dead was laid to rest.
