A 34-year-old man who has allegedly been parading himself as a legal practitioner in Lagos State has been arrested by the Nigerian police with the help of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The suspect, Mathew Olayeye, was arrested at Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 23, 2015 where he was facing another criminal charge.
His arrest followed a report by Barrister Seyi Olawumi, the General Secretary of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikeja branch, Lagos, that he was an impostor.
The police promptly responded and arrested him at the court and detained him at their station for investigation.
According to pmnews.com, Olayeye’s appearance and manner of speech before Magistrate Olayinka where he appeared as counsel in a matter attracted suspicion among the lawyers present at the court.
The lawyers contacted the NBA which had since been trailing him.
According Olawumi, they had received several reports concerning Olayeye’s activities and NBA members were told to report to the NBA executives whenever he was found.
On the fateful day, Olayeye was in court where he was facing a criminal matter related to fraud. He allegedly issued a Senator a dud cheque and was charged with the offence.
Police sources said Olayeye would be charged to court soon
