A 53–year-old woman, Madam Sinoroba John, and 12 others were over the weekend nabbed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa state for allegedly dealing on 20.9 kg of Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs.

The Bayelsa State Commander, NDLEA, Mr. Frank Hanachor, while confirming the development through a statement sent to LEADERSHIP via email, said the arrest of the suspects were made at various locations in the state.

Hanachor said 20.9 grams of cannabis was discovered in John’s house at Opokuma in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State before she was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

Also arrested was one Onyebuchi Umenze, a native of Anambra State who was discovered to be engaged in alleged sales of 1.4 grams and 1.1 grams of cocaine along the Etegwe/Tombia bridge in the Bayelsa State capital.

The NDLEA boss also noted that the agency had made 25 convictions in court in the last few months and recorded over 185 arrests of drug suspects in the state with a total seizure of 247.495kg of hard substances.

Among the arrested suspects was one Erekeji along the East/West who was arrested with 58kg of cannabis.

Hanachor said, “We are waiting when the courts would resume sittings so that the suspects would be arraigned.”

“Nothing good comes from using, dealing on drugs. Always report cases of cocaine and cannabis users to security agencies as drugs cannot make you a man. Youths should always keep off. Don’t touch, report drug dealers to the police or the agency. Drug dealers live with us here in the society, most of them are our brothers and sisters.”
