Acting inspector general of police, Suleiman Abba on Thursday, August 21, 2014 appointed DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu as the new public relations officer for the Nigerian Police Force replacing Frank Mba who has held the post since February 2014.
Mba was redeployed to the Lagos state command of the force to assume the office of area commander, Area J.
The announcement which was made public via a press release signed by Abayomi Shogunle, the deputy force public relations officer says that before getting the appointment, Ojukwu was the deputy commissioner of police heading the Criminal Investigations Department (C.I.D), Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.
DCP Ojukwu knows the job all too well having served as a force PRO from December 2008 to October 2010.
Ojukwu also boasts a rich resume holding a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in psychology (1st class honours) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in psychology from the University of Lagos. He is the president of nthe University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Abuja, Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)
In a short handover ceremony which took place at the force public relations department, Abuja, outgoing PRO, Mba expressed gratitude to the inspector general for his new appointment, urging the public and media alike to show cooperation to the new police spokesman.
In response, Ojukwu pledged to work maximally to increase the cordial relationship between the police and the populace. He enjoined Nigerians and the media to avail him of goodwill and cooperation necessary for his successful time in office, echoing the popular police slogan “The Police is your helper and friend.”
