Unyielding: ‘Our Pursuit of Biafra’s Self-Determination is Non-Negotiable’ – Nnamdi Kanu

KUJE, Abuja – The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that the struggle for the realization of Biafra is non-negotiable.

This statement was relayed in a tweet posted on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, by Kanu’s legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.

The tweet read: “Personal Message from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu: ‘I deeply appreciate the abiding solidarity of the people of Biafra & the entire IPOB noble family against my continued illegal detention. I assure you all that our pursuit of self-determination to its logical conclusion is non-negotiable.'”

Kanu, who was abducted from Kenya in 2021, remains in the Department of State Services custody in Abuja, despite an order from the Appeal Court for his release.

The Federal Government has appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, affirming its position on the Biafran leader.

The IPOB leader faces charges that include treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, and publication of defamatory matter.

In light of this, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria called on President Tinubu three days ago to release Kanu as part of a wider national reconciliation effort.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah also advocated for Kanu’s release, suggesting that the president hand him over to a South-East governor.

“We believe that his release will expedite the healing process Nigeria needs at this time. It will also be a pointer to his administration’s extension of brotherly hands of fellowship to Ndigbo,” Governor Mbah said.

He also announced that there would no longer be any “sit-at-home” orders in the state, previously issued by the separatist group.
