Obasanjo Is Not An APC Member And Therefore Cannot Stop Buhari – Minister

Must read

Adebayo Shittu, minister of communications, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former president cannot stop President Muhammadu Buhari from winning 2019’s Presidential election.

The former senator added that Obasanjo’s recent tirade against Buhari smacks of sensationalism and ignorance.

Shittu disclosed this while addressing state house correspondents on Monday January 29, 2018 in Abuja. the minister sought to intensify Federal Government’s response to Obasanjo, who had last week lampooned Buhari for nepotism, economic mismanagement, condoning corruption and undeserving of a second term as President.

According to Authority, Shittu noted that Obasanjo was no longer a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and that his comments were reminiscent of unfounded and clannish criticisms from those who lost patronage from government, just like the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whose 16 years in power did not record the numerous achievements chalked up by the Buhari administration in less than three years.

He also recalled that such criticism was a known style of Obasanjo against almost every administration since the 1980s except that of General Sani Abacha who quickly imprisoned him before he could display such sensationalism against that military regime.

The minister, who was barred from distributing Buhari’s 2019 campaign caps and material at the Federal Executive Council meeting last week, said that many government officials like him had not hitherto been overly defensive of the administration because “we don’t believe in propaganda”.

Stressing that he had not flouted any electoral law by intending a second term for Buhari, he listed the achievements of the administration in the key areas of fighting corruption, boosting the economy and securing the nation.

He blamed some state governors for sensationalism over the herdsmen attacks on communities, which he said were largely the handiwork of ex-soldiers and militias of the Libyan revolution a few years back.
