ENUGU, Nigeria – The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an Igbo sociopolitical group, has called on security agencies to arrest a man named Chima Uzor for alleged criminal impersonation of the organisation.
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, made the request in a statement he issued on Sunday, June 11, 2023, in Enugu.
He clarified that Uzor was unknown to the organisation and lacked the authority to make public statements on its behalf.
In the statement, Iwuanyanwu said, “My attention has been drawn to a publication by one Mazi Chima Uzor who claimed to be the Director of National Interest Matters in Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In his publication, he claimed that Ohanaeze condemns Emefiele’s suspension, saying it’s ethnic cleansing.”
Iwuanyanwu categorically stated that the claims were entirely false, and there was no office for National Interest Matters within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
He added that the organization had no intention of interfering with investigations by the Department of State Security or any other security agencies in the country.
Ohanaeze also does not plan to interfere with disciplinary actions taken by the government against its officials.
Regarding individuals’ rights, Iwuanyanwu pointed out that they were entitled to go to court, and if proven innocent, Ohanaeze would take all necessary steps to assist them.
However, if the individual is found guilty, the organization would not be able to provide assistance.
Iwuanyanwu characterized the case of Mazi Chima Uzor as “a matter of criminal impersonation” and requested that security agents treat it as a serious crime.
Lastly, he warned the public about fraudsters tarnishing the reputation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by making false publications in the name of the organization for personal gain.
He expressed hope that with the assistance of security agents, these individuals would soon be exposed and dealt with accordingly.
