Peter Obi Denounces Treason Allegations, Urges End to De-marketing Tactics

ABUJA, NIGERIA – Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, has issued a statement condemning the recent campaigns of calumny targeted at him by the Nigerian government and political party spokespersons.

In the statement released on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in Abuja, Mr Obi warns against continuing de-marketing tactics, which he believes negatively impacts Nigeria’s image.

“In the past few days, I’ve observed various campaigns of calumny directed at my person, the latest being allegations attributed to Information Minister Lai Mohammed from Washington DC,” Obi stated as he expressed his concern about the allegations against him.

The Labour Party’s standard bearer, described the accusations as “malicious and fictitious,” adding, “It is most unfortunate that these consistent efforts to portray me quite contrary to what I am and my core values, is coming from such high quarters. Minister Lai accusing me of stoking insurrection is malicious and fictitious.”

The presidential candidate emphasised that he has never advocated for or encouraged actions against the Nigerian state nor sponsored or preached any action undermining its authority.

Obi criticised those using their official positions and agents to make false allegations against him, reminding them that he has always promoted peace and issue-based campaigns without focusing on ethnicity or religion.

Known for his inspirational, issues-based politics, and statesmanship, Obi has made a significant impact on the Nigerian and global political landscape in 2023 with his Obidient movement. This movement has gained widespread support and significantly changed the Nigerian political structure in 2023.

Beginning his campaign for president nine months before the February 25 election on a previously and relatively unknown political platform, leveraging on the youth-driven Obidient Movement, Obi, who went against two establishment candidates, is believed to have won the election, which was marred by electoral malpractices by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Peter Obi is currently seeking redress by praying the court review, overturn the results announced by INEC and restore the original election results he believes he won. He called on those engaged in the de-marketing process to cease their actions.

He urged them to stop presenting Nigeria in a negative light, stating, “Our future generations deserve a new Nigeria where they can live a secure and decent life like their counterparts in other climes. It is possible.”
