Four children have been injured after falling off of the hood of a moving vehicle. A local NBC station in Texas is reporting that 39 year-old Kisha Young, who was found to be intoxicated, allowed six children to ride on the hood and trunk of her Chevrolet Malibu. Authorities report that the children had gone swimming at Creekside Community Pool and were riding on top of the car in an attempt to dry their clothing.
The children, who are between the ages of 8 and 14, fell off of the car when Young went around a corner too fast. Young was so inebriated that she initially was not even aware of the fact that the children had fallen off of the car. She did not realize that they had fallen until she was at the end of the block.
Demi Garcia witnessed the incident as she stood in her front yard with her father. She says that Young started to back up after seeing her dad run to the aid of the children. Four of the children were seriously injured and were treated at Cook Children’s Hospital. One of the victims, a 12-year-old girl, had to be airlifted to another hospital because she sustained a severe head injury. Witness Holly Powell states that she did not see the girl moving after the fall and that EMS workers had to, “do everything to get her on the stretcher…it was really, really scary.”
Young was arrested and charged with intoxication assault, which is a third degree felony. No bond has been set for her. There was a second adult present in the car, but authorities have not released that person’s name. Police are reporting that there are additional charges pending against both Young and the other adult involved. Child Protective services has also been contacted and will be completing an investigation regarding the incident.
