The Twitter Battle

Nigerians experienced an eventful day on Twitter when a globally renowned Muslim cleric, Imam Tawhidi accused Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari of supporting terrorism and doing little to protect Christians who are being massacred by Islamist militants in the country.

Tawhidi, a peace advocate and author, began a Twitter storm on Friday, March 27, 2020 when he wrote, “Islamists in Nigeria are destroying Christian communities. Weak leadership of Buhari. Failed President. No realistic agenda to tackle Jihadists. All talk.”

“President Buhari and his cult are coming after me instead of going after Boko Haram. This shows you the real agenda of #PresidentCovik and the Covik cult,” the Australian cleric wrote after Buhari’s aides attacked his comments on the social media platform.

How It Began

Muslim influencer Mohammad Tawhidi popularly known as ‘Imam of Peace’ has called Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari an enabler of terrorism in Nigeria.

In a set of tweets on Friday, the Imam, known for his sometimes controversial tweets, took President Buhari to the cleaners, berating his response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
