Rivers Transition Committee Accuses Governor Amaechi Of ‘Hurried’ Illegal Transactions

Must read

The transition committee of the Governor-elect of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has accused the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led Rivers State government of carrying out some hurried last minutes transactions which were neither provided for in the state budget or had the necessary cash backing.

Speaking via a statement issued by Barrister Frank Owhor dated Tuesday, May 19, 2015, the transition committee warned the general public against engaging the state government in such transactions as the would have only themselves to blame.

The statement read:

The Transition Committee of the Governor-Elect of Rivers State has received reports of hurried financial transactions by the out-going government of Rivers State. Some of these transactions are neither provided for in the State budget nor do they have the necessary cash backings. In some instances, contractors are now being paid in advance for work not yet done or anticipated to be done.

The refusal of the Rivers State government to constitute a Transition Committee to interface with that of the Governor-Elect has created a loophole that is being exploited by corrupt and unscrupulous political appointees to the detriment of the people of the State.

The transition Committee wishes to advise members of the public to refrain from being part of any dubious financial or commercial transaction whether involving Certificate of Occupancy, award of contracts, guarantees, prepayment and advances. Any person entering into any such financial commitments involved in the backdating of contracts and other commercial transactions have themselves to blame for the consequences. Political Office holders are also advised to be circumspect in their last minutes dealing as there is no immunity for them, whether in or out of office.

For the avoidance of doubt, the in-coming administration would not honour fictitious transactions, done or purported to be done.
