A final year HND II student of the Department of Computer Science from Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local government area, had over the weekend fallen into a well and drowned while fleeing from armed robbers.

The student identified as Victor Onyeka from Ndokwa West Council Area of the state was reported to have resumed for the year’s academic session only last week after spending last semester holiday with his parents in their community.

An eyewitness disclosed that the deceased had gone to visit his course mate aroundthe area on the fateful day.

“Around 8:00 pm, he asked his friend to accompany him to his house so that he could boil the soup he cooked in the morning of that day.

“On their way, somewhere around the interior part of Agidiase quarters where most of the private hostels were located, a gang of robbers on a motorcycle accosted Victor, his friend and two other girls, whom they met on the way as they were going to the deceased house. They robbed the two girls and the deceased friend at gun point. It was at this time the deceased escaped and ran into a building close to the area.”

The Nation reports disclosed that the victim scaled through a building and unfortunately fell into a well beside the building where he got drowned.

After the attack, the deceased friends waited in vain for him to come out of his hiding place and when he was not forthcoming, they waded into a search only to discover that he had been drowned in the well.

Another source who confirmed the incident said, “Despite the alarm that was raised by the students in their bid to save the dying youth, they could not save him. The owner of the well was equally handicapped as he could not make any effort to save the situation.”
