Simply The Best: Global Outpour of Tributes Honouring the Life and Legacy of Tina Turner

Must read

NEW YORK, USA – A global outpouring of grief and admiration has begun to ripple across the world as news of Tina Turner’s passing permeates the collective consciousness.

Turner, who died at 83, was the inimitable queen of rock ‘n’ roll, left an indelible mark on the music world with her powerful voice, electrifying performances, and indomitable spirit.

“Tina Turner, the “Queen of Rock’n Roll” has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” a statement by her publicist, Bernard Doherty, on Wednesday, said. “There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time.”

Born Anna Mae Bullock, Turner rose from a childhood of adversity in Nutbush, Tennessee, to reach the zenith of global stardom. Her contributions to music transcend genre and generation, and she has been lauded as one of the greatest artists of all time.

Former US President Barack Obama, renowned for his profound appreciation for music, also added his voice to the chorus of tributes. “Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herself—speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy,” he said in a statement. “Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.”

Sir Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, a contemporary of Turner’s, remarked, “The passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner so saddens me. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.”

Vice President Kamala Harris also shared a poignant tribute, highlighting the remarkable journey of Tina Turner. “Tina Turner was a spectacular light whose life was a testament to all those who believe in what can be, unburdened by what has been,” she stated. “From Nutbush, TN to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, her strength, voice, and signature moves inspired millions. Tina Turner was simply the best.”

TD Jakes, a globally renowned preacher and author, also extolled Ms Turner on Twitter. “Tina Turner wasn’t just an icon. She was a survivor. Turning pain into purpose and finding renewed life through her music made her singing that much stronger. We lost a giant in the entertainment business and a queen without equal. Rest well, Tina — you were simply the best!”

Dionne Warwick, an iconic artist in her own right and a longtime friend of Turner, expressed her sorrow on Twitter. “Another longtime friend has made her transition,” she wrote. “Not only will I miss that eternal ball of energy named Tina Turner but the entire world will also find this void in their lives. My condolences to her husband and other members of her family. Rest in Peace my friend!”

Another music icon, Cher, a longtime friend and collaborator, went on MSNBC to reflect on her close friend. She revealed details of her last visit to Ms Turner. “There was no other person like her,” Cher said. “There was no other person who could come close to who she was.”

And here are several more tributes.
