Spirit And Life Devotional: A Strong Desire For His Presence

Must read

[pull_quote_center]”And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.” Luke 19:3-4 NKJV[/pull_quote_center]

Jesus was passing through Jericho. In Jericho was a man named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, and a rich man. Zacchaeus had heard a lot about Jesus, so much that he sought to see Who Jesus was. But Zacchaeus was of short stature, and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to see Jesus because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him.

A rich man would normally have arranged for a private meeting with Jesus; he would have sent his personal assistants to invite Jesus for a private dinner at his house. But not Zacchaeus; he was a very humble man; he didn’t care about what people were going to say about him; he wasn’t bothered about what the newspaper headlines would be; his desire to see Jesus was very strong, it was all that mattered to him.

Psalm 42:1-2 says, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” God is looking for men and women who are hungry for His presence. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled. Amen.
