Stay Away From Lagos Beaches – NEMA Warns Residents

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 warned the residents of Lagos State to stay away from beaches to avoid casualties in an impeding ocean surge that might occur any time.

The agency also implored fun loving residents and boat operators to be safety conscious to avert loss of lives and property, from the possible surge.

Residents of the state especially those in the coastal areas usually experience ocean surge during this period, which has claimed the lives of many people.

According to New Telegraph, the South-West spokesperson for NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said in a statement that users of inland waterways should be cautious.

He said, “NEMA is advising all users of inland waterways and fun seekers on the beaches and coastal lines to exercise utmost cautions in the face of turbulent nature of the sea.

“NEMA and other stakeholders have alerted ferry/boats operators on the situations and they are already applying safety measures as dynamic as the situations in case of emergency.”
