Step Up Action Against Boko Haram – PDP Governors Urge Buhari, Military

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Thursday urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the military to as a matter of urgency step up their actions in the fight against members of Boko Haram that have continued to engage in massive killings and wanton destruction of property in the North East of the country.

Rising from a meeting Wednesday night in Maitama, Abuja, the governors who operate under the aegis of PDP Governors’ Forum, PDPGF however expressed regretted the latest terrorist attacks in the North East especially against the backdrop that Gombe State has joined the list of those constantly being attacked by the insurgents.

Speaking to Journalists at end of the meeting, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State who revealed that as the meeting was going on, a call came to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State in attendance alerting him of a fresh attack in the state, stressed that since the insurgents appeared to be widening their areas of attack, it was important for the military to devise more effect to counter them.

He said, “We actually enjoin all the Armed forces to step up their security measures to see how they can stem the tide of this menace. It is really a thing of concern to PDP governors that in spite of all the efforts in the Armed Forces, these guys are still proving to be more formidable. So, we are sure if the Armed Forces step up a little bit, they should be able to curtail it.

“We received another report of another attack. These are things we believe if we all rise up as a country, we should be able to curtail it.”

According to him, the meeting discussed other issues which he did not disclose to Journalists,

The meeting took place before the scheduled meeting of the parent Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) which was expected to endorse a PDP governor as its vice chairman.

According to a source, the PDP governors also discussed the issue of NGF vice chairman following reports suggesting that the majority All Progressive Congress (APC) governors would reject Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State should the PDP present him as its candidate for the vacant post.

Present at the meeting were governors of Bayelsa, Kogi, Ekiti, Abia, Delta, Taraba, Akwa-Ibom, Ondo and Rivers.
