ENUGU – A pregnant woman has been beaten to death by her husband in Akpawfu village in Nkanu-East Local Government Area of Enugu state.
The tragic event which occurred on October 17, 2014 at about 10:05pm led to the death of 4-month pregnant Ndidi Ozoemena Nwankwo, who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Ozoemena Nwankwo.
The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into the heinous crime describing the suspect as an alleged serial wife beater.
According to a statement released to newsmen by police public relations officer, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, he said:” Close family source informed the command that the suspect had been using his wife as punching bag.
“The suspects wife is four months pregnant. Due to the beating she got from the husband on that fateful day which inflicted injuries on her right leg and on her vital organs, she was rushed to hospital.
“She was unconscious at the nearby hospital were she was rushed to and the doctors on duty confirmed her dead. The reason for the beating is yet-to-ascertained. The suspect, Ozemena Nwankwo has been nabbed and is helping Police with investigation.”
The victims corpses has been deposited at the Agbani General Hospital for autopsy.
The matter will be charged to court once investigations is concluded, police spokesperson reveals.
