ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has approved the formation of Nigeria’s delegation to the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group, aimed at deepening security collaboration between the two nations.

The announcement was made on Thursday, November 27, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.

The delegation, led by Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), is tasked with coordinating efforts to strengthen security ties with the United States.

The formation of the joint group was a key outcome of recent high-level discussions between Nigerian officials and their US counterparts in Washington, DC.

Members of the Nigerian delegation include key ministers and security chiefs.

Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mohammed Abubakar, the Minister of Defence; Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior; and Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, will all be part of the team.

Also on the delegation are Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); Mohammed Mohammed, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency; and Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Idayat Hassan from the Office of the NSA and Paul Alabi from the Nigerian embassy in the United States will serve as the secretariat for the group.

In his statement, Tinubu urged the delegation to work closely with their US counterparts to ensure the effective implementation of existing agreements in areas ranging from security to humanitarian affairs.

The joint working group is expected to foster closer coordination on counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and military collaboration, building on the existing bilateral ties between Nigeria and the United States.
