Tinubu’s Trial by Subsidy: Primate Ayodele Issues Stern Warning Over Subsidy Removal

Must read

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has cautioned that the removal of fuel subsidy could significantly harm the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to Ayodele, it is not yet the appropriate time for such action, as it may lead to substantial economic hardship for Nigerians.

In a statement released on Thursday, June 1, 2023, by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele stressed that Tinubu’s government would face difficulties until 2026, unless divine mercy intervenes.

He went on to criticize the President’s handling of the subsidy issue.

The statement reads: “No matter how you want to put it, it is not yet time to remove the fuel subsidy; it will damage the present government. They should work on the subsidy technically.

There is no way things won’t be hard; there is no way we won’t face economic hardship. Tinubu will not get this government better until 2026 if God decides to show mercy.”

Primate Ayodele explained that while there is nothing inherently wrong with removing the subsidy, the current method of removal is generating controversy.

He urged Nigerians not to harbor high expectations from Tinubu within his first term in office, given the country’s current challenges.

“Sincerely, Tinubu didn’t address the issue well. Nigerians should not expect so much from Tinubu within his first four years in office,” Ayodele added.

The removal of the fuel subsidy has been a contentious issue in Nigeria, with critics arguing that it will lead to increased fuel prices, thereby affecting the cost of living and adding to the economic burden of ordinary Nigerians.

Supporters, on the other hand, argue that the subsidy is not sustainable in the long run and that its removal will free up resources for other critical sectors.
