Former US special investigator Robert Mueller has denied US President Donald Trump at his first public statement on his Russia investigation.
The question of whether Mueller completely relieved the US president negated Mueller. On the other hand, Trump had interpreted the almost 450-page report that Mueller had submitted after 22 months of investigations in April.
The former FBI chief also confirmed in his live televised appearance to the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the allegation of a legal impediment against Trump had not been resolved. That it had not come to the indictment, was because the Ministry of Justice usually initiates no criminal investigations against incumbent presidents, so Mueller.
Mueller had stated in the report that Trump had repeatedly gone against his investigation. Trump dismissed the allegations and accused Mueller of “witch hunt” against him.
Mueller had investigated whether there were any collusion between Russia and Trump’s Republican campaign team to the detriment of the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
The 74-year-old said he had seen several times in the course of his career threats to US democracy. “The attempts of the Russian government to interfere in our election are one of the hardest.”
On Wednesday, Mueller was bombarded by Democrats and Republicans alike with questions. Several times he asked to be allowed to finish his remarks and that questions are repeated again.
Trump quoted a Fox News anchor presenter on Twitter as saying that the hearing was a “disaster” for the Democrats and Mueller’s reputation.
The Democrats are divided on whether to push ahead with Trump’s impeachment or to focus on the 2020 presidential election campaign.
