VIDEO: Benue Lawmakers In Free-For-All Fight Over House Leadership

The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 turned into a boxing ring as members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, exchanged blows in the middle of a plenary session after a heated argument over the appointment of the house security leader.

The disagreement started when the Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, brought up the issue of selection of principal officers for the house.

The PDP claimed that the member representing Obi State Constituency, Nick Eworo, was still a member of the party and as such they were still in the majority with fifteen lawmakers against that of APC with fourteen.

Members of the APC however, maintained that Eworo is a member of their party.

It was in the course of the heated argument between the APC member representing Makurdi South, Benjamin Adanyi and the PDP member representing Makurdi North, Martin Aza that the two engaged in a free for all.

But for the timely intervention of some of the legislators, the fight would have escalated further.

The Speaker therefore ruled in favour of the APC and went ahead with the selection process that led to Benjamin Adanyi being named Leader; Nick Eworo, Deputy Majority Leader, and Titus Uba, Chief Majority Whip.
