We Will Not Declare Our Assets Publicly – Buhari’s Ministers

Some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministers-designate have said that they will not be declaring their assets publicly, but with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as required by the law.

According to a report by Punch, some of the recently cleared ministerial nominees said they do not have to declare their assets, while a few others said they are willing to make their assets public.

This comes months after the much criticised declaration by President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, which many have said did not meet the standards met by former Presidents Umuaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

When asked if he will declare his assets, the minister-designate from Nasarawa State, Ibrahim Jibril, who spoke through his media aide Ibrahim Umar said: “It is not necessary to emulate Buhari and Osinbajo.”

When spoken to, Oyo State’s Adebayo Shittu said the constitution did not make it compulsory.

Cladius Daramola from Ondo State said: “I have no comment. I don’t have assets; I am a teacher and my children are my only assets.”

Cross River’s minister-designate, Usani Uguru Usani said he would not talk to the press until he takes his oath of office.

The nominee from Edo State, Osagie Ehanire, declined to comment when quizzed on the issue.

Kemi Adeosun and Isaac Adewole, the ministers-designate from Ogun and Osun States respectively expressed readiness to declare his assets publicly.

Solomon Dalong, the minister-designate from Plateau State said he will declare hisassets soon as he has already picked up the asset declaration form.

Speaking on behalf of Rotimi Amaechi from Rivers State, the APC Publicity Secretary in the State, Chris Finebone said it was a personal decision.

Attempts to speak with  Audu Ogbe (Benue), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Lai Mohammed (Kwara) and James Ocholi all proved abortive although Hakeem Bello, the media adviser to Fashola, he said he was not aware of his boss’ plans.

Investigations by the Punch also show that Fashola would not declare his assets as it would stir controversy.
