Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill Farmer in Enugu

Some men believed to be Fulani herdsmen on Friday, January 15, 2016 killed a local farmer in his farm located at Amagunze, in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The victim identified as Onwura Hyacinth Ani was shot dead because he complained that the cattle belonging to the Fulani men destroyed his farm at Ihukulu Village, Ohuani Amofu.

Vanguard reports that the police have swung into action to avert crises between the natives of Ihukulu and the Fulani over the Ani’s  death.

Investigations have begun and some suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.

The suspects are currently in police custody at Amagunze and would be transferred to the police headquarters in Enugu State for further investigation.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.

He said: “The matter is being handled. I don’t have the details yet but the matter is being handled. Some suspects have been arrested.”
