An Indonesian girl feared dead in the Indian Ocean tsunami a decade ago has apparently been reunited with her parents.
Raudhatul Jannah was aged just four when she and her brother, then 7, were swept out of their house and away by the waters which engulfed their island of Sumatra on Boxing Day in 2004.
Mother and father Jamaliah and Raudhatul Jannah, who live in the West Aceh district in Aceh province, searched for them for a month before giving them up for dead.
It was only recently that their uncle spotted a girl who resembled Raudhatul and told his sister.
Jamaliah found out that the girl she is now certain is her daughter has been living with an elderly woman in the Aceh Barat Daya district of Aceh province.
“My husband and I are very happy we have found her,” Jamaliah said after they were reunited this week.
“This is a miracle from God.
“If anyone is in doubt, I’m ready for DNA tests.”
Teenager Raudhatul has told her mother that her brother may be alive as they were stranded together.
“We will look for him on Banyak Island because we believe he is still alive,” she said.
A total of 230,000 people were killed by the tsunami, with 170,000 left dead in Aceh.
