A 14 year old girl mistakenly took several bags of heroin thinking they were sweets to her day care center and distributed them cheerfully to her friends in the school.
The police revealed that the little girl’s mother allegedly gave her the bag filled with heroin unknowingly because the family pet ruined her regular school bag previously.
Most of the children at the day care centre who received the heroin packs have been taken to the hospital for proper check.
Reports by The Courier Mail revealed that the backpack allegedly contained about 250 packets of heroin, which could weigh nearly four grams, and “Slam” was labelled on each of them.
The girl’s 30-year-old mother identified as Ashley Tull, was charged with three counts of child endangerment and maintaining a drug property. She was charged and discharged on $US6000 ($6885) bail.
However a woman who identified herself as Tull’s sister, Alicia Tull, said the charges and the subsequent media attention were unfair adding that Tull wasn’t going to say anything about the case.
According to Alicia Tull, her sister had no knowledge of the heroin in the backpack because if she did, she wouldn’t have released the bag to her daughter to take to school.
She refuted the allegations that her sister deals on drugs maintaining that an unspecified individual had tajken advantage of her poor sister by storing the drugs in her bag without any idea from her.
The child endangerment counts relate to Ms Tull’s three children, who range in age from 11 to four.
Part of her release, was an order given by the police warning against any contact between Tull and her children who were taken to stay with one of their relatives.
In a statement by Delaware State Police spokesman, Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, “the charge of maintaining a drug property means that a person knowingly allows drugs in the home. It is a distinct crime from drug possession.”
The police assured that necessary investigations are being carried out to discover the events behind the heroin in the back pack.
