The NYPD has launched an “intensive citywide search” to find the drug dealer who sold heroin to Philip Seymour Hoffman, the New York Post reports.
The actor, who died Sunday of an apparent drug overdose, was discovered laying on his side with a syringe in his left arm. Empty heroin envelopes with the branding “Ace of Spades” and “Ace of Hearts” on them were found nearby.
Police told The Wall Street Journal 49 glassine envelopes of what appeared to be heroin were uncovered in the actor’s home, along with bottles of prescription medicine.
An unnamed law enforcement source told the Post that the department’s newly appointed narcotics lead, Timothy Bugge, sent an internal email asking supervising officers if they had any specific knowledge or had dealt with the branded drugs discovered in Hoffman’s West Village apartment.
“They’re going to try to find the source,” the unnamed source told the Post.
More than 20 used syringes were also found in a nearby plastic cup.
Hoffman was 46.
