6 Members of One Family Killed in Domestic Violence Episode

Must read

MUSCATINE, United States — Six people were killed on Monday, June 1, 2026 in a series of shootings across Muscatine, Iowa, that police said appeared to have arisen from a domestic-related dispute.

The suspected gunman, identified by police as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, was also found dead after officers located him near a riverfront trail, the Muscatine Police Department said.

Police said the victims were believed to be members of McFarland’s family.

Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies described the killings as an “act of evil” but did not release the names or ages of the victims, saying the investigation was continuing.

Officers first received a report of a shooting shortly after noon on Monday.

When they arrived at a residence in the city, they found four people with gunshot wounds. All four were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said McFarland had left the home before officers arrived. He was later found near a pedestrian bridge on a riverfront trail, where officers provided medical aid before he was pronounced dead.

Other Victims Found

Detectives later discovered another man dead from an apparent gunshot wound at a separate residence.

A further search led officers to a business, where another person was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Online maps show a metal workshop at the address provided by police.

“Preliminary findings indicate the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute,” police said in a statement.

“All victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.”

Kies said McFarland had an existing criminal record but did not provide further details.

Muscatine is located along the Mississippi River in Iowa and has a population of about 23,500 people, according to United States government data published last year.

Mayor Brad Bark, writing on Facebook, said the city was grieving.

“Our hearts are heavy tonight after the tragic shootings that claimed innocent lives,” Bark wrote.
