Amotekun Corps Commander, David Akinremi, Dies After ‘Prolonged Illness’

ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – David Akinremi, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, has been reported dead.

A retired Commissioner of Police, Akinremi passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, after battling an undisclosed illness for a prolonged period, according to reports.

In 2021, Governor Dapo Abiodun appointed Akinremi as the pioneer Commander of the Amotekun Corps, which had been newly established in Ogun State at that time.

The Amotekun Corps, under Akinremi’s leadership, actively collaborated with other security agencies in efforts to combat crime and ensure security within the state.

The Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed Akinremi’s death and expressed deep sorrow, describing the news as “a rude shock.”

David Akinremi’s passing marks a significant loss for Ogun State, where he played a pivotal role in security efforts as the head of the Amotekun Corps.

The state government and security agencies will be tasked with finding a successor who can carry on the efforts made by Akinremi in enhancing security within the region.
